About this project
The San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation needs your help to purchase new universal access fire rings at 60 campsites within Memorial County Park!
Memorial County Park’s location and unique resources make it a prime opportunity for family and youth recreation. It is within 20 miles of Interstate 280, serving the heavily populated San Mateo and San Francisco counties, yet provides an opportunity to feel far removed from the urban population. The Park contains eight miles of hiking trails and popular picnic facilities but is best known for its campgrounds. Several campgrounds are available for families with 158 sites total provided. The park’s mix of family and larger group camp sites provides opportunities for multiple generations to camp together as well as serving as a location for youth and school group education programs.
We need the help of the Citizinvestor community to support accessibility improvements at the park, specifically for the installation of new universal access fire rings at 60 campsites within the park. Currently old brick campfires with heavy metal grills are provided within the park. This project would replace them with universal access fire rings depicted below. These fire rings have a tip back grate that is easy to use with an outside ring that provides a heat barrier.
In addition to an easy to lift flip back grill, the heat barriers on the new fire rings also help prevent accidental burns. This next phase of work goes beyond compliance with ADA to serve these families and youth groups by incorporating principles of universal design into the park so that a wider range of facilities are usable to the greatest extent possible by everyone, regardless of their age, ability or status in life.
The campfire rings will be installed over the winter months over a 2-3 month period as soon as funding is received from this project. This project will fund the purchase of 60 fire rings. Funding for installation of these rings has already been identified through a combination of County Park Ranger staff time working with volunteers to dismantle and remove the old fire grills and install the new ones in their places. The full budget for this project is as follows:
Help make this significant improvement to our community and our parks by donating tax-deductibly today!
How can I be certain that the municipality will use my money for a particular project?
We've got your back! Before any project is posted to Citizinvestor, our partners agree that the money you donate to a specific project will only be used for that project.
Will my credit card be charged if a project doesn't meet 100% of its funding goal?
No! We require that a project be funded in full before any money changes hands. If a project is only 99% pledged once the deadline hits, nobody's credit card gets charged, including yours.
When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged the same day in which a project reaches 100% of its funding goal.
Is the money I donate to projects on Citizinvestor tax deductible?
Yes! Under section 170 of the United States. Internal Revenue Code, it states that contributions made to political subdivisions for exclusively public purposes are categorized as charitable contributions. However, with all tax matters, we recommend that you consult a CPA.
Are there any transaction fees included in the project goal amount?
Each project's total cost includes a 3% credit card transaction fee and a 5% fee for Citizinvestor's services. These fees are only paid if the project reaches 100% of its funding goal.
